A part of the Duke athletics family for nearly 50 years, Carmen Falcone came to Duke in 1943 as an assistant football coach under Eddie Cameron.

After a two-year stint in the Navy, he returned to Duke and rejoined the football staff. He also became the head wrestling coach in 1949, leading the Blue Devils until 1966 in that capacity.

Falcone, a native of Batavia, New York, placed third at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in 1939 for Kent State and was an Olympic finalist in 1936. He later received an award of merit from Kent State and was named to its Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.

While an undergraduate, Falcone received 11 varsity letters: four in football, four in wrestling and three in track. He received his undergraduate degree in 1940 and earned his master's from Ohio State in 1945.

Falcone directed five conference champions at Duke. He retired from full-time football coaching duties in 1972.
