Ed Koffenberger will be long remembered for his skills as a great basketball player at Duke University, but the two-time basketball All-America was also selected All-America in lacrosse. During his basketball career, he was named All-Southern Conference in 1946 and 1947 and was honored the same seasons as an All-America. He led the team in scoring in 1946 and 1947. He was the first two-sport All-America at Duke and won the Teague Memorial Award in 1947 as the top male athlete in the Carolinas. In lacrosse, despite his fine scoring ability he was known as a defensive standout. It was defense that also first won him prominence in basketball. Not only did he excel on the field, but he also did quite well in the classroom, graduating with a long string of academic honors, including Dean's List, vice president of the Student Government for two years, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa (a national honorary fraternity) and numerous engineering societies.
