A native of Berwick, PA, Mike Souchak was one of the all-time greats on the PGS golf tour after starring at Duke in football and golf. During his playing days between 1952 and his retirement around 1971, the likeable Souchak won a total of twenty major tournaments.

His greatest hour came in the Texas Open in 1955 when he shot rounds of 60-68-64-65 and set a record of 27 strokes over the first nine holes of the tournament.

Souchak came to Duke on a football scholarship in 1947 and was a regular for three seasons and made several All-Southern teams in 1950. During his career he kicked 76 of 88 extra points and caught 43 passes and scored five touchdowns.

He participated in golf in 1950-51-52 and served as captain in 1952 and 1952. Souchak led the Blue Devils to the Southern Conference title in 1951.

He served as the pro at the famed Oakland Hills Country Club in Birmingham, Michigan, for six years prior to joining the Innisbrook Golf and Country Club in Clearwater, Florida, in 1972.
