NEW ORLEANS – The Duke women’s cross country team was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as a 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team, the organization announced this week.

To be considered, a team must have completed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet and also have maintained a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or above.

The 2008 Blue Devils took fourth as a team at the Southeast Regional, with their team score of 171 placing them behind only Virginia (105), Kentucky (126), and North Carolina (154).

The University of Washington Huskies were named the 2008 Scholar Team of the Year after winning their first NCAA team title following a Pacific-10 and West Regional championship this past fall. The University of South Carolina recorded the highest cumulative GPA of the record 160 teams on the list, with an overall average of 3.767.

The ACC saw eight teams honored. In addition to the Blue Devils, Clemson, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest made the list.
