Dan Perlmutter is in his 9th year as head of Olympic Sports Performance at Duke. He oversees a staff of 5 coaches that collectively train 24 Blue Devil teams, and works directly with Baseball, Men’s Tennis, Men’s Soccer, and Men’s and Women’s Fencing.

Perlmutter has coached numerous All-American and All-ACC student-athletes during his time at Duke. Many have gone on to compete professionally in the U.S. and internationally, including All-American and MLB 1st Round Draft Pick Marcus Stroman, (Toronto Blue Jays), Herman Trophy winner and 2011 MLS Draft overall 1st Pick Andrew Wenger (Montreal Impact); and several others.

Perlmutter oversaw the design of Duke’s new 13,000 square foot training facility in the Scott Family Athletics Performance Center, and in 2016 moved all Olympic Sports teams into the country’s premier training space. Featuring 35 Sorinex Base Camp Uber Racks, an 8-station Keiser training area, a 50-yard indoor turf running space, a Gatorade Fuel Bar, and iPad-based training software for team workouts, the Scott Family training facility is unrivaled in it’s ability to host training activities for elite teams in all sports.

Perlmutter’s prior experience includes five years as the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning at Harvard University (2004-2009), as well as stints at Holy Cross in 2004, and Springfield College from 2002-04. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, he worked with numerous professional athletes in baseball, football, soccer, ice hockey, and track & field.

Throughout his career, he has also served as a consultant to the USTA Competition Development Center in Boston, has contributed to a variety of professional publications in the field, and has hosted professional clinics and conferences on campus at Duke. During his time in Durham, he has maintained direct ties with former Blue Devil athletes playing professionally in their respective sports, hosting MLB, MLS, and ITA athletes for off-season training, and consulting on training programs throughout the year. He is also an active member of the Durham community, assisting with fundraising efforts for local non-profit organizations, and working with Duke’s teams to give back to the city in which they live and play.

Perlmutter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from George Washington University (1998) and a Master’s degree in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College (2004).

A native of Massachusetts, Perlmutter lives in Durham with his wife Amy, their two daughters Mia and Jordan, and their son Miles.
