DURHAM, N.C. – Seven members of the Duke swimming & diving teams were included on the 2008-09 All-ACC Academic squads, the league office announced today. Six members of the women’s team and one from the men’s received honors. A total of 42 women and 40 men comprise the list from one of the nation’s most competition swimming & diving conferences.

From the Blue Devil women, juniors Meredith Bannon, Shannon Beall, and Julie Brummond, sophomore Ashley Twichell, and freshmen Abby Johnston and Jessica Lyden made the list. The men were represented by junior David Hahn.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester as well as a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.

For the 2008-09 campaign, the Blue Devil women finished out the year with a winning dual meeting record of 7-4 that was sparked by five straight wins at the outset, picking up ACC wins over Miami, N.C. State, and Maryland on that slate. The team went on to take sixth at the 2009 ACC Championships with 307 total points, a one-slot jump from a season ago. Two individuals (Twichell in the 1650 free and Johnston on the three meter board) won ACC titles.

The Duke men also notched a winning dual meet record of 6-3, grabbing ACC wins over Maryland and Clemson. The men took seventh at the 2009 ACC Championships with 207 points, a two-spot jump from last season.
