 Duke Head Coach Ted Roof
“When you look at it you cannot turn the ball over as many times as we did.  Of their six scoring drives, there were a total of 97 yards so that is about 16 yards a scoring drive.  It was a classic game of field position because you couldn’t get anything going offensively.  Then, with the turnovers it just snowballed.  At times I thought our defense played well, but we just cannot make mistakes like that and expect to beat anybody.  It is pretty disappointing.”

On Virginia’s success running to the short side:
“They did a nice job.  Our defense did OK. They were running the ball into the boundary quite a bit.  Sometimes we just have to disengage from blocks.  Sometimes they did good things too.  Certainly that was an issue but there were a lot of other bigger issues out there than that.”

On Thaddeus Lewis under a lot of pressure:
“He was [under a lot of pressure].  He is going through some freshman growing pains right now.  We knew they were coming.  It was just a matter of when.  He is a strong kid, he will get through it and we will get through it.  It is very disappointing but we are looking forward to going back to work.”

On this team expecting to recover and being prepared for next week:
“That is what we do and what we are about. There is no other standard and option.  That is it.  I expect us to come back and play a lot better next Saturday.”

Sophomore Safety Glen Williams
“Our offense tried but made a lot of mistakes.  We turned the ball over, had interceptions and put us on the short field, so we had to pick it up from there.  We just were not able to get in rhythm.”

“We knew coming into the game that they were going to try to run to the short side of the field.  We wanted to set the edge so they couldn’t get around the defense, but when we did, we didn’t execute the way we wanted to and they were able to capitalize on some plays.”

“We need to forget about this game.  There is another game coming up.  On Monday we will go back to work, work harder and hopefully come away with a win.”

Sophomore Wide Receiver Marcus Jones
“It has been a while since I have been at wide receiver.  In practice it has been going pretty well. [I have been having my] ups and downs; getting the gist of running routes.  Getting out there and playing for the first time [today] was a good experience.”

“We are going to put this behind us.  We are pretty upset about the way we preformed.  We are going to put it behind us and get ready to go out to practice next week and get ready to take it to Alabama.”
