DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team, off to the program’s best start since 1998, will host the University of Albany on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field. The Blue Devils enter the game 6-0 while the Great Danes begin their 2007 season in Durham.

Last Time Out
Duke is coming off last weekend’s 3-0 series sweep over St. Bonaventure. It was the second straight series sweep for the Blue Devils, who last posted a pair of series sweeps during the 2004 season. On Friday, Duke collected 15 hits and scored 13 runs, including five in the eighth inning, to defeat St. Bonaventure, 13-4. In Saturday’s game, Duke used a seven-run first inning to spark a 14-6 win. Duke then scored a season-high 16 runs, including seven in the seventh inning, off a season-high 22 hits to defeat St. Bonaventure, 16-4, on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Devils outscored the Bonnies, 43-14, during the three-game series and pounded out 34 more hits than St. Bonaventure. As a team, Duke hit .463 over the weekend while holding St. Bonaventure to a .220 average at the plate. Nine Blue Devils with five or more at-bats hit over .300, including four players - senior Jonathan Anderson, junior Jonathan Nicolla and sophomores Nate Freiman and Matt Williams - who hit over .500. The Duke pitching staff had a 3.00 team ERA compared to St. Bonaventure’s 14.62 ERA.

Scouting Albany
Albany will kick off their 2007 season in Durham. The Great Danes went 20-32 overall and 12-10 in the America East Conference last season. The 2006 campaign was the fifth straight 20-win season for Albany.

Duke-Albany Series History
