Duke Baseball Hosts Temple On Tuesday & Xavier On Wednesday

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team will host Temple on Tuesday and Xavier on Wednesday for a pair of non-conference games at Jack Coombs Field. Both games are set for a 3 p.m. start. The Blue Devils enter the week with a 13-1 record while the Owls are 2-7 and the Musketeers are 1-10.

Home Sweet Home
The Blue Devils are in the midst of an 11-game homestand at historic Jack Coombs Field.

Last Time Out
Duke is coming off last weekend’s three-game sweep over Holy Cross. The Blue Devils won both games of a double-header against Holy Cross on Saturday, routing the Crusaders, 13-1, in game one before erasing a five-run deficit in game two for a 10-7 victory. On Sunday, second baseman Ryan McCurdy scored from second on a passed ball to break a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the seventh and freshman Michael Seander and senior Jonathan Anderson held Holy Cross scoreless over the next two innings as Duke held on for a 6-5 victory.

Tuesday: Duke: LHP Jeremy Gould (0-1, 6.52 ERA) vs. Temple: RHP Rob Chamra (0-0, 27.00 ERA)

Scouting Temple
Temple enters Tuesday’s game with a 2-7 record on the season. The Owls defeated Winthrop on Friday in 10 innings before dropping two straight to East Tennessee State and Kent State at the Winthrop Coca-Cola Classic in Rock Hill, S.C., over the weekend. 
Duke-Temple Series History
The Blue Devils hold an 8-1 record over the Owls in series history. The two teams last met in 2000 when Duke swept Temple in a three-game series Feb. 19-20.

Scouting Xavier
Xavier enters Wednesday’s contest 1-10 on the season. The Musketeers dropped a three-game series to top-ranked Vanderbilt over the weekend. Their lone win of the season came against Oakland on Feb. 28.

The Blue Devils and the Musketeers will meet for the first time on the diamond when the two teams take the field on Wednesday.

A Look Ahead
Duke will open ACC play against Boston College this weekend at Jack Coombs Field. Friday’s game will begin at 3 p.m., Saturday’s game is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday’s series finale is slated for a noon start. Duke then wraps up its 11-game homestand by hosting Fairleigh Dickinson for a two-game series March 13-14 before a trip to Clemson March 16-18.
