With five catches for 38 yards on the day, Vernon passed former Florida State standout Peter Warrick (3,517) atop the ACC’s all-time chart. Duke’s Sean Renfree threw a 24-yard scoring pass to Scott in the first period and later added a rushing touchdown from nine yards out in the second quarter. Ross Martin accounted for the first half margin by booting a career-best 50-yard field goal with one minute remaining in the first half.

The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter with Washington and Renfree each throwing scoring passes. Washington pushed the Yellow Jacket lead to 35-24 with a touchdown pass with 10:17 left in the fourth period.

Renfree finished 24-of-36 passing for 198 yards and two touchdowns. Duke’s defensive unit was paced by linebackers Kyler Brown (14 tackles) and C.J. France (15 tackles).
