Action Continues at U.S. Olympic Team Trials

OMAHA, Neb. - The 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials - Swimming continue to roll on in Omaha, with Duke swimmers seeing action Thursday and Friday at the CenturyLink Center.

Two Blue Devils notched new lifetime bests in Thursday's time trials, as rising junior Lauren Weaver posted a time of 58.84 in the 100-meter freestyle and rising senior Ted Minturn recorded a 58.89 clocking in the 100 backstroke. Rising senior Ben Hwang also competed in the time trials of the 100 freestyle, recording a mark of 51.88, while classmate Jim Zuponeck turned in a 2:21.75 performance in the 200 breaststroke.

Thursday morning's preliminary heats saw rising junior Hunter Knight compete in his second event of the trials. After finishing 70th in the 100 breaststroke in a lifetime-best time of 1:04.19 on day two, Knight took 95th at the 200-meter distance at 2:21.42.

Rising junior Christine Wixted returned to the pool Friday morning for her second event, the 200 breaststroke. The Greenwood Village, Colo., native took 41st out of 118 swimmers, touching in 2:34.24. Wixted also turned in an impressive performance earlier in the week, placing 25th in a field of 152 competitors with a lifetime best 1:10.02 clocking in the 100 breaststroke.

Minturn also competed in Friday's prelims, finishing 78th in the 200 backstroke at 2:05.98 to move up nine spots from his 87th-place seeding.

The U.S. Olympic Trials continue through Monday, July 2 in Omaha. Several other current and former Blue Devils are slated to swim over the final three days of competition, including Hwang in the 50 freestyle, 2011 graduate Ashley Twichell in the 800 freestyle, rising senior Cara Vogel in the 200 backstroke and Weaver in the 50 freestyle.
