NEW ORLEANS, La.-  The third-ranked Duke women’s golf team turned in a third place finish at the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship on Tuesday as the Blue Devils finished with a 36-hole total of 583, which was only three shots off the lead at the 6,105-yard, par 72 English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, La.

As a team, Duke fired rounds of 283 and 300 to conclude with a two-day total of 583.  Following the opening round four-under-par total, the second round was cancelled due to damaging weather Sunday evening.  The golfers dealt with high winds and very wet conditions on Tuesday to close the tournament.

Southern California won the team title in a playoff over UCLA, after both teams finished with a 580.  Rounding out the team scores were Duke (583), Tulane (589), Purdue (591), LSU (592), Alabama (593), Baylor (593), Texas (595), Florida (596) and Oklahoma State (596).  Hayley Davis of Baylor claimed the individual title with a four-under-par, 140.

Junior Laetitia Beck opened her round on fire as she moved to three-under-par through hole No. 13 and led the individual portion of the event by one stroke.  Beck, who is out of Caesarea, Israel, then suffered three bogeys over a span of four holes and closed her day with her second straight even-par round of 72.  She finished tied for eighth overall with a 144, which marked her first top 10 placement of the season.  Beck hit 11 fairways, eight greens and added a team-best 26 putts.

Lindy Duncan carded a final round of 75 on her way to finishing tied for 11th overall with a 36-hole total of 145.  A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan started slow with a five-over-par ledger through eight holes.  She settled down and played her final 10 holes at two-under-par as she notched birdies on No. 9, No. 15 and No. 16.  Duncan hit 10 fairways, 10 greens and had 28 putts in the final round.

Junior Alejandra Cangrejo tallied rounds of 71 and 76 for a total of 147, which was tied for 20th.  Cangrejo, who is out of Bogota, Colombia, totaled her second top 20 finish of the season after notching one birdie on the day.  She hit eight fairways, seven greens and had 27 putts on the day.  In two tournaments this spring, Cangrejo has turned in a 15th and 20th place finish.

After totaling a 70 in round one, freshman Celine Boutier struggled on Tuesday on her way to finishing with a 79.  Through two rounds, she placed tied for 27th with a 149.  Senior Stacey Kim added a round of 77 on her way to finishing tied for 41st with a 151.

The Blue Devils have carded two third place finishes in two spring tournaments.   Duke will next compete in the Bryan National Collegiate from March 29-31 in Greensboro, N.C.
