TULSA, Okla. – The 2013-14 women’s golf campaign kicked off on Monday as the third-ranked Blue Devils competed in the Dale McNamara Fall Preview at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.  Duke carded a three-over-par, 283, and is tied third with 36 holes remaining.

Oklahoma State opened with a two-under-par, 278, on Monday and leads the event by four strokes over Oklahoma (282).  Arizona (283), Duke (283), Arizona State (284), Stanford (286), Vanderbilt (287), Georgia (288), Southern California (288), North Carolina (289), Alabama (290), Arkansas (291), Tulane (291), Texas (292) and Tulsa (316) rounded out the field.

Duke was led on the day by senior Alejandra Cangrejo with a one-under-par, 69, which is tied for third individually.  Oklahoma State’s Julie Yang (67) holds the individual lead, while Lauren Kim of Stanford is second with a 68.

Cangrejo, who is out of Bogota, Colombia, had a solid day with two birdies, one bogey and 15 pars.  She collected birdies on No. 5 and No. 11, which are both par four holes.

Sophomore Yi Xiao carded an even-par 70 on Monday, which is the second-best round over her short Duke career.  A native of China, Xiao opened with five straight pars, but sinking birdie on the 139-yard, par three sixth hole to move to one-under-par.  Xiao hit into the bunker on No. 6, but holed her sand shot on a challenging downhill attempt.  She suffered a bogey on No. 10, but went ahead to par the next five consecutive holes.  Xiao had a birdie on No. 16 and a bogey on the 17th as she finished at even par, which is tied for 12th overall.  Xiao hit three fairways, 11 greens and had 28 putts on the day.

After opening with five pars, senior Laetitia Beck had one of only two bogies on the day at No. 6.  Beck, who is out of Caesarea, Israel, then got hot with birdies on the seventh, ninth and 10th holes to move to two-under-par.  A bogey on No. 12 and a double-bogey on the 13th dropped Beck back to one-over-par for the day.  She finished with five pars to shoot 71 and is tied for 21st overall.  She hit 12 greens, eight fairways and had 30 putts on the day.

Sophomore Celine Boutier was even par through seven holes on the day, but went through a rough stretch where she bogied four of eight holes to drop to four-over-par.  Boutier, a product of Montrouge, France, closed with a birdie on the par five 15th to finish with a 73.  She is tied for 38th overall with two days remaining.

Making her collegiate debut on Monday was freshman Sandy Choi, who is out of San Diego, Calif.  Choi turned in a four-over-par, 74, and is tied for 46th overall.  She opened the first nine holes with three bogeys, one birdie and five pars as she made the turn with a two-over-par, 37.  Her birdie came on the 390-yard, par four eighth.  Choi had two bogies on the back nine on her way to closing with a 74.  She hit 14 fairways, nine greens and had 30 putts on the day.

Duke will tee off on Tuesday in the second round beginning at 9:45 a.m. (EST) along with Stanford and Arizona State.

Live scoring will be available via www.Golfstat each day.
