ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Duke men’s tennis team collected two first-round victories in doubles on a rain-shortened day of competition at the Winthrop Invitational Friday, Nov. 1.
Freshman TJ Pura and sophomore Josh Levine teamed up for a first-round doubles victory Friday, topping Kennesaw State’s Tobi Menhofer and David Durham, 8-4. The Blue Devil duo will now face Rob Galloway and Haris Poric of Wofford in Saturday’s second round at 8:30 a.m.
Following a trip to the doubles round of 16 at the ITA Carolina Regional two weeks ago, redshirt junior Cale Hammond and sophomore Daniel McCall also notched a first-round victory Friday. The Blue Devil tandem downed Appalachian State’s Sebastien King and Zach Bost by an 8-2 score to set up a meeting with Conner Huertas Del Pino and Sebastian Yllera of East Tennessee State Saturday morning. Hammond and McCall also moved to 4-4 on the fall with the win.
