DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore right-hander Robert Huber held No. 7 North Carolina scoreless for the first seven innings but the Tar Heels scored three runs with two outs in the eighth to edge Duke 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Huber (4-5) held Carolina to just four hits through the first seven frames. Huber retired 21 of 27 batters through the first seven innings, including 15 of the first 18 that he faced. He began the game by retiring the first eight Tar Heels in the lineup. Huber had five strikeouts on the day compared to only two walks.

North Carolina (38-13, 19-8 ACC) finally broke through in the eighth, scoring on an RBI-double by pinch hitter Mike Zolk and on a two-run single by designated hitter Brian Holberton.

Carolina starter Shane Taylor (5-0) held the Blue Devils to one hit in a career-high eight shutout innings. Taylor had a career-high eight strikeouts against just one walk on the day. Michael Morin then came in and closed out the ninth to pick up his 16th save of the season. 

Duke senior David Putman retired all three batters that he faced in the ninth.

Designated hitter Jeff Kremer had the only hit of the game for Duke (19-32, 7-20 ACC).

The Blue Devils will host Presbyterian on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field in their final home game of the season. Duke will then hit the road to take on Boston College Thursday-Saturday to wrap up the 2012 season.
