DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior cornerback Ross Cockrell, scheduled to start in the Duke secondary for the third season in 2012, highlights today’s Summer Spotlight.

A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Cockrell has played in and started 23 games and totaled 116 tackles, four interceptions and 16 pass breakups.  He earned Defensive MVP honors in the annual Spring Game this past April after helping the White unit to a 38-24 win with four tackles, one caused fumble, two pass breakups and one quarterback pressure.

A two-time Academic All-ACC selection, Cockrell posted 56 tackles and 10 total passes defended last year, and closed the season with a career-high matching 10 stops along with one interception versus North Carolina.
