The squad will go through nine days of practice before traveling west to Winston-Salem, N.C., to scrimmage against conference foe Wake Forest on August 18. Its first scheduled opponent is Drexel University on Friday, August 24 in Philadelphia, Penn.
The Blue Devils return 14 letterwinners and welcome five freshmen to the 2012 squad. They will play ten home matches and a new Friday/Sunday format for the weekend competition schedule.
The Blue Devils home opener is a matchup against Princeton, who is one of five opponents that made an appearance in the 2011 NCAA tournament. Other opponents include the 2010 and 2011 national champions, Maryland and 2011 NCAA runner-up, North Carolina (UNC).
During the 2011 season, the Blue Devils finished with a 14-8 overall record, including eight victories over ranked opponents. Duke earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history, advancing to the quarterfinals.
