GEISPOLSHIEM, France – The Duke women’s basketball team closed the 2012 DWB European Tour on Sunday with a 121-34 victory over Geispolshiem at CJS Geispolsheim in Geispolsheim, France.  Senior Allison Vernerey played in front of many family and friends, while leading Duke with 23 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists in 34 minutes.

Duke jumped out to a quick 39-2 lead after the first quarter and led 71-10 at the half.  As a team, the Blue Devils shot 55.1 percent from the field in the first stanza and held Geispolsheim to only 1-of-27 field goals over the first 20 minutes.  Freshman Sierra Moore, who made her first start of the three-game tour, totaled 14 first half points and junior Tricia Liston added 14 as well.

At one point in the first half, the Blue Devils went on a 49-0 run that lasted from the first quarter into the second quarter.

Vernerey, who is from Alsace, France, was playing only an hour and a half from her hometown.  She had an outstanding game with 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting.  This came a night after hosting the entire team at her house along with her father, Jacques, and sister Chloe.

Freshman Alexis Jones came off the bench to notch a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and added six assists in 25 minutes.  After scoring 14 points in the first half, Moore finished the contest with 19 points and three rebounds.  Seven total Blue Devils scored double-figures – Vernerey (23), Liston (23), Moore (19), Haley Peters (14), Chelsea Gray (14), Jones (13), Ka’lia Johnson (10).

For Geispolsheim, Maria-Ange Vincent scored a team-high six points, while Clememce Dersoir added five points and eight rebounds.  Duke forced 36 turnovers in the contest and held Geispolsheim to 16.3 percent shooting.

Duke dished 26 assists and had only 16 turnovers on the day.

The Blue Devils will conclude the tour by traveling to Italy on Monday for two nights before heading home on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
