DURHAM, N.C. - For the second time over the last three weeks, Duke University redshirt junior Kim DeCesare has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com national Team of the Week on Monday, after helping lead fourth-ranked Duke to two victories in the USC Futbol Classic over the weekend.
After falling behind, 1-0, in the first half at Southern California on Friday night, DeCesare tallied two goals over a seven-minute span in the second half to lead Duke to a 2-1 victory over the Trojans.
A native of Massapequa Park, N.Y., DeCesare came back on Sunday and posted the game-winning goal in the 23rd minute as Duke collected a 4-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Washington State Cougars.
DeCesare has registered goals in four of the five matches this year and has notched multiple tallies in two contests. After being moved from the midfield to the forward slot this season, the 5-10 standout has tallied a career-high six goals and four assists on the year.
She was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week in week one, after posting three goals and two assists versus 20th-ranked William & Mary and Elon. DeCesare also earned ACC Player of the week, Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week and to the Soccer America Team of the Week, after her solid opening weekend.
The Blue Devils will next host the Duke Nike Classic on Friday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 9 with North Carolina, Marquette and San Diego in attendance. The action will get started on Friday at 5:00 p.m., with North Carolina versus Marquette followed by Duke against San Diego at 7:30 p.m.
