DURHAM, N.C. -- Conner Vernon earned Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week honors after catching 10 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown in Duke's 46-26 win over FIU in the season opener. Vernon, who set the Duke career receptions record (208) and moved into fourth place on the ACC's all-time receptions list with the performance, caught passes of 46, 49 and 28 yards in the win. The two-time All-ACC selection needs just 25 more receptions to break the ACC's all-time record.
The 10-catch performance was the fourth double-digit reception game of Vernon's career, moving him into a tie for first place on Duke's all-time list for games with at least 10 catches. His 180 receiving yards were just one shy of tying his career high. Vernon is also within reach of Duke and the ACC's all-time receiving yardage lists, needing 464 more yards to break Clarkston Hines' Duke record and 663 more yards to break former Florida State star Peter Warrick's ACC record.
Vernon and the Blue Devils travel to Stanford this Saturday for a 10:30 p.m. EST kickoff in Stanford Stadium.
