DURHAM, N.C. – With the NCAA women’s soccer selection show to be aired on Monday, Nov. 5 beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Blue Devils are excited to hear when and where they will be playing as the road to the NCAA College Cup will get started next week.
The selection show will be aired live on NCAA.com on Monday at 4:30 p.m., as Duke is expecting to receive its 19th all-time NCAA Tournament bid. The Blue Devils are coming off making a run to the NCAA Championship game in 2011, before falling to Stanford, 1-0.
Duke returned all 11 starters this season and posted a 12-5-2 overall record under the direction of 2011 National Coach of the Year Robbie Church. The Blue Devils turned in a 5-3-2 league record on their way to finishing sixth in the very challenging ACC.
On the season, Duke has been one of the top scoring teams in the nation averaging 2.74 goals a match, which ranks sixth nationally. Junior Laura Weinberg (15 goals), redshirt junior Kim DeCesare (12 goals) have led the way for the Blue Devils. The tandem has matched the Duke single-season record for most goals by a scoring duo.
Earlier this week, the ACC released its All-ACC women’s soccer teams with four Blue Devils earning honors. Weinberg was named to the first team, while DeCesare, Natasha Anasi and Cassie Pecht were selected to the second team. Pecht, who is a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., became just the third Blue Devil to be named ACC Freshman of the Year. The 5-3 forward/midfielder owns 11 assists on the season, which ranks tied for first in the ACC and fifth nationally.
