Duke Finishes Weekend Strong on the Track

SEATTLE, Wash./ BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior James Kostelnik ran a personal record of 8:07.51 in the men's 3,000 meter run to finish sixth at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., Saturday, February 9.  The time was good enough to move him from fifth to fourth on Duke's all-time list.

At the Virginia Tech Elite meet in Blacksburg, Va., the men's distance medley relay team ran a season best time of 9:54.56 to win.  Sophomores Nate McClafferty, Kyle Moran and Brian Schoepfer and freshman Michal Filipczak combined in the victory, the first of two on the day for the Blue Devils.

Senior Ashley Brasovan picked up the second victory, crossing the line first in the women's 5,000m with a time of 17:19.63.  Seniors Dana Morin and Sophia Ziemian also competed in the event finishing in third and fifth place overall. 

In the women's shot put, junior Michelle Anumba improves on her performance from last weekend, earning a season-best mark of 54-5.25 (16.59) to finish in second place.  Junior Erica Brand set a personal record with her 46-0.75 (14.04) to finish fifth overall.  Multi event athlete Miray Seward also competed in the shot put finishing eighth with a mark of 36-9.75 (11.22). 

Redshirt sophomore Stephen Boals set a personal record in the men's shot put with his best throw measuring at 55-7.75 (16.96) which was good enough for fifth place on the day and fifth place in Duke's all-time list.  Redshirt Kyler Shumway finished in ninth place with a mark of 52-9.5 (16.09). 

In the men's high jump, junior Tanner Anderson cleared 6-10.75 (2.10) to finish in fourth place.  He was joined by freshman Carl Heinz who finished fifth overall clearing 6-8.75(2.05).
