DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University incoming freshman Yu Liu qualified for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur this week as she carded a one-over-par, 73, to earn one of 10 spots into the prestigious tournament.

The 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur will be played Aug. 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.  Duke boasts two past champions of the amateur as Amanda Blumenherst won the title in 2008 and Virada Nirapathpongporn won in 2003.

Ashlan Ramsey earned medalist honors with a round of 68 at the Kiawah Island, S.C., qualifying site that was played at the Cougar Point Golf Course.

Liu, who is out of China, is a three-time winner on the AJGA Tour and was a 2011 Second Team Rolex Junior All-America.  She is also a three-time winner of the HSBC China Junior Golf Championship.  In five AJGA Tournaments in 2013, Liu has placed in the top eight in four of those.
