Laetitia Beck and Laura Weinberg will both compete in the Maccabiah Games, which kick off on Thursday, July 18 in Israel. Beck will represent her home country of Israel on the women’s golf team, while Weinberg will play for the United States and compete in soccer.DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s
Beck, who is a native of Caesarea, Israel, will kick off action on July 23 in the open ladies division and will play 54 holes with 18 holes each day from July 23-25. The competition will take place at the Cesarea Golf Club.
Coming off her best season as a Blue Devil, Beck totaled a career-best 73.16 stroke average, had one top five, four top 10 and eight top 20 finishes in 2012-13. She closed the season with eight top 20 finishes over her final nine tournaments. This included a second place finish at the ACC Championship and tied for 17th placement at the NCAA Championship. Beck earned Golfweek All-America and NGCA Honorable Mention All-America accolades.
A product of Boca Raton, Fla., Weinberg and the U.S. squad will open play on July 18 against Australia before taking on host Israel on July 19. The U.S. will also face Canada on July 21, Holland on July 23 and Germany on July 25. The playoffs will take place on July 28-29 with the top six teams competing.
Weinberg registered a school-record 44 points in 2012 as she scored 16 goals and assisted on 12 others for the Blue Devils. The 2012 All-ACC selection notched four multi-goal games and posted five game-winning goals on the season, helping the squad to an NCAA Elite Eight Appearance for the second consecutive season. Weinberg received Soccer America MVP accolades along with First Team All-ACC and All-Region honors for her efforts.
