DURHAM, N.C. – Five Duke women’s tennis players earned preseason national rankings in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) 2013 Division I singles and doubles polls, released Friday, Sept. 6. In addition, several members of the squad were also selected to compete in the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, which will be held Sept. 28-Oct. 6 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Rookie Chalena Scholl was ranked No. 2 overall in the women’s preseason freshman/newcomer rankings for 2013-14.
Two Duke doubles team were also tabbed with a preseason ranking, as Goldfeld and junior Annie Mulholland were ranked the No. 31 duo in the country, while Mar and Scholl were listed No. 40.
Selections for the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships were also announced Friday, with Mar earning a spot in the tournament’s main singles draw. Capra and Goldfeld were among those selected as singles qualifiers, while Capra was also designated an alternate for the singles main draw. Jodoin, Scholl and Mulholland were named singles pre-qualifiers, with Jodoin also being tabbed a qualifying round alternate.
Mulholland and Goldfeld were selected qualifiers for the doubles tournament at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, while the tandems of Mar and Scholl and Jodoin and newcomer Alyssa Smith were listed as pre-qualifiers.
Duke opens the fall portion of the 2013-14 season next weekend at the Duke Invitational in Cary, N.C.
