DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team opens its ACC schedule this weekend, welcoming both Virginia and Virginia Tech to Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke takes the court versus Virginia Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m., then squares off against Virginia Tech Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

The Blue Devil Network will stream live video of both matches, and live stats are also available through GoDuke.com.

Duke enters the conference portion of its schedule with a 9-2 overall mark following a pair of victories over Big Ten opponents this past weekend. The Blue Devils, winners of five straight matches, swept Indiana Friday evening, then registered a four-set victory over No. 16 Illinois Saturday.

Sophomore Elizabeth Campbell garnered ACC co-Player of the Week and Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week honors after averaging 5.14 kills per set and totaling a team-high 36 kills over the two matches. In addition, rookie Sasha Karelov picked up ACC Freshman of the Week accolades, totaling 32 digs to help the Blue Devils limit their two opponents to a combined .138 hitting percentage.

After 11 non-conference matches, Duke leads the ACC in kills per set (15.29) and assists per set (13.91), and ranks third and fourth in the nation, respectively. Junior setter Maggie Deichmeister has 377 assists to her credit and ranks third in the league with a 10.77 assists per set average. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Sklar paces the Duke offense with a team-high 118 kills, while Campbell and junior Jeme Obeime have totaled 112 each.

Senior libero Ali McCurdy has posted 159 digs in 2013, bringing her career total to 2,104. She is just the second Blue Devil to top 2,000 career digs, and needs just 96 more to tie Jenny Schull for the school record (2,200).

Virginia is 7-5 overall heading into the weekend. The Cavaliers earned wins over Seton Hall, Columbia and William & Mary at the Cavalier Classic Sept. 20 and 21. Junior Tori Janowksi averages 4.40 kills per set and leads the Cavaliers with 194 kills.

Duke holds a 43-13 advantage in the all-time series against Virginia. The Blue Devils have won 14-straight matches in the series, including a 3-1 victory over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville in the teams’ only meeting during the 2012 campaign.

The 12-2 Hokies are in the midst of a four-game ACC road swing, starting at Wake Forest Friday, Sept. 27. Michigan State and Louisville are the only two teams to best Virginia Tech this season as the Hokies currently lead the ACC in hitting percentage (.296). Senior outside hitter Samantha Gostling has a team-high 150 kills, while junior middle hitter LaTasha Samson-Akpan leads the Hokies with 67 blocks and ranks second in the league in blocks per set (1.37).

The Blue Devils lead the Hokies 24-3 in the all-time series. However, Virginia Tech bested Duke in the two squads’ lone meeting this past season as the Hokies earned a four-set victory in Blacksburg.

Duke’s first road ACC game of the season is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 2 as the Blue Devils travel to Notre Dame. Duke then returns home for a contest against Wake Forest Sunday, Oct. 6.
