DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, sat down with senior McKay Ross to learn more about the Glen Aubrey, N.Y., native. Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
McKay Ross: The initial respect that you get from everyone once you say that you go to Duke and you’re on a sports team. I feel like there is an instant respect from everyone within the university and outside of it too. Also, just being able to wear “Duke” on your jersey because it represents such a great institution for athletics and academics. And being able to meet other top-level athletes from different sports that are within the community here also is a great thing. What is your favorite ‘on the field’ memory?
MR: Beating UNC. It was the first time we’ve beat them since I’ve been here. I think it was only our 11th win over them overall also, so just being a part of that is huge. What is your favorite ‘off the field’ memory?
MR: Probably the Duke-UNC football game last year when they beat them with so little time left. Being able to rush the field with a lot of other students, and a lot of our team was there also so just being able to enjoy that moment with them and our friends on the football team. Name three foods you can’t live without.
MR: Ice cream, smoothies and salsa. Describe head coach Pam Bustin in three words.
MR: Determined, encouraging and motivated. Name three places you would travel to if you could.
MR: Greece, Australia and Germany. What are three of your favorite restaurants in Durham?
MR: Tobacco Road, Alivia’s and Dane’s on Ninth Street!
