DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Kim DeCesare to learn more about the Massapequa Park, N.Y., native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Kim DeCesare: I would say my teammates, because my best friends are on the team or have been on the team and have graduated. Duke’s atmosphere around sports in general because we treat sports as such a big time thing and I love being a part of that and being a fan and being a player and just being around the sports world. I would say the connections that I’ve made here. I’ve gotten to know people I never thought I would, whether in the academic realm or the athletic atmosphere and that’s been just incredible.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘on the field’ memory?
KD: Can I have two? I would say the first one was playing against Long Beach State in the Elite Eight two years ago that put us to the Final Four. I scored in the second half and it was the first goal of the game, we were up 1-0. That was my craziest celebration and probably my best feeling after scoring a goal. The second one was UVa last year in the Sweet Sixteen. From the moment we got to the field and into the locker room, the atmosphere in the locker room before the game and when that last whistle blew, and that feeling of just complete exhaustion but that we just got the job done.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘off the field’ memory?
KD: I would say I have the most fun just being in season, traveling and just being around the team. In the Final Four we played Charades. It was the night before we played Wake Forest and all of us just packed into a room and we made the most ridiculous Charades. That was definitely a highlight. Just socially being with the girls on the team, I would say.

KD: Pasta, pizza and bagels.
