DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard is pleased to announce the addition of right-handed pitcher Chris Koppenhaver to the Duke baseball program. A native of Davie, Fla., Koppenhaver will join the Blue Devils for the 2014-15 academic year.
“Chris Koppenhaver is widely regarded as one of the top RHPs in the country,” said Pollard. “He was heavily recruited by numerous SEC and ACC schools. He has the potential to be a true ‘power’ pitcher as he continues to grow into his frame. We look forward to seeing Chris in Duke blue next fall.”
A 6-2 right-hander with a smooth delivery, Koppenhaver garnered 2013 Perfect Game Underclass All-America second team honors following his junior season at Pine Crest High School. With a fastball in the low 90s, he was among the Class of 2014’s top two percent nationally in pitching velocity in 2013. One of the top 250 prospects nationally according to Perfect Game, Koppenhaver was also tabbed the No. 78 right-handed pitching prospect by the organization.
Koppenhaver is also an athletic outfielder, batting .311 with four doubles, three home runs and 24 RBI for the Panthers this past season. A two-time Perfect Game Underclass All-America honorable mention choice, he was also selected to the top pitchers list and top prospect list at the Perfect Game National Main Event.
