DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke University wrestling team resumes its busy dual schedule Wednesday night, welcoming VMI to Card Gymnasium for a non-conference bout. The Blue Devils and Keydets square off at 7 p.m.

Meeting for the 36th time overall, Duke is in search of its 12th all-time win over VMI and fourth in the past five seasons. The Blue Devils defeated the Keydets 22-15 last season in Lexington, Va., while VMI last downed Duke in 2010, 21-18.

Duke, 4-8 overall, is coming off of a tough loss to No. 17 Virginia Tech Friday night. Five of the Blue Devils’ eight losses have come against top-25 opponents. Duke is 1-0 in midweek matches, posting a thrilling comeback victory over Appalachian State last week.

Headlining the Blue Devils’ lineup is redshirt junior Immanuel Kerr-Brown. The 157-pounder is 16-7 overall and 9-3 in duals, which includes a perfect 3-0 mark in ACC play. He most recently registered a major decision against Virginia Tech and last lost Jan. 18.

At 174 pounds, Trey Adamson is in search of his 13th win of the season. The redshirt sophomore sports a team best seven major decisions and is 7-5 in duals this season. Classmate Conner Hartmann hopes to resume his winning ways after dropping a tough one-point loss to his sixth ranked wrestler last weekend of the year. He is 12-7 overall and 7-5 in duals.

Freshman Alex Elsea and senior Brian Self return to the lineup after injuries sidelined them for the past few bouts. Self, Duke’s heavyweight, is 5-10 overall and will go up against VMI’s wins leader Juan Adams.

The Keydets are 3-11 overall and most recently edged Davidson 21-20. VMI owns wins over the Wildcats, Franklin & Marshall and Sacred Heart. Adams is tops for the Keydets with a 12-6 overall record at heavyweight, while Shabaka Johns is 8-10 overall.

Similar to Duke, VMI featured a young lineup with eight freshmen and sophomores among the probable starters.

Duke continues its non-conference schedule Saturday, Feb. 1 at Rider and Drexel. The matches are slated for 1 and 7 p.m., respectively.
