DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s Jabari Parker was named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District III Player of the Year as announced by the organization Tuesday. Parker and teammate Rodney Hood were also named to the 10-member all-district team.

Parker, a first team All-ACC selection, is averaging 19.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the 24-7 Duke Blue Devils. The Chicago native is on pace to set a Duke freshman scoring mark as well as become the sixth freshman in ACC history to eclipse the 600-point mark in a single season. Parker’s 16 20-point games are tied for second-most in league history and three shy of Kenny Anderson’s (Georgia Tech) ACC freshman record. He enters the ACC Tournament with the fourth-best freshman scoring average and tied for the ninth-best rebounding mark in conference history.

Parker has recorded six straight double-doubles, including a dominant 30-point, 11-rebound effort in a 93-81 win over No. 14 North Carolina Saturday. His string of six consecutive double-doubles is tied for the fifth longest stretch in Duke history.

Hood garnered all-district honors after averaging 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists during the regular season. He has scored in double figures 27 times with 10 games of 20 or more points scored. The Meridian, Miss., native is one of 15 players in the NCAA rankings in the top 10 in their respective conference in scoring, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three-point percentage and three-point field goals.

Duke has now had five USBWA District III Players of the Year in the 11 years of the award with Parker joining previous Duke winners Chris Duhon (2004), J.J. Redick (2006), Nolan Smith (2011) and Mason Plumlee (2013). Parker and Hood are the 23rd and 24th USBWA All-District III Team honorees in Duke history.
