DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University was selected as the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Tournament and will host the winner of the play-in game between Air Force and Richmond in Koskinen Stadium Sunday May 11 at 5:15 p.m. on ESPNU. The Blue Devils earned one of eight at-large bids to the tournament and will be making their 18th appearance in the NCAA postseason event.

Tickets for the game are $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Fans can purchase tickets at GoDuke.com or by calling the Duke ticket office at 1-877-375-3853. The game will be televised live by ESPNU.

The Blue Devils finished the regular season with a 13-3 mark and are making their eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Duke has been among the top eight seeds in 16 of its 18 appearances and is the No. 1 seed for the third time. Duke is 5-2 as the No. 1 seed.

The reigning NCAA Champions, Duke is 28-15 all-time in NCAA Tournament games and 19-5 under head coach John Danowski. The Blue Devils have advanced to the final weekend in each of the past seven seasons and captured the NCAA title in both 2010 and 2013. Danowski is the lone coach in Division I lacrosse history to lead a squad to championship weekend in each of his first seven seasons at the helm of a program.

The 2014 ACC Offensive Player of the Year Jordan Wolf headlines the Duke attack with 51 goals and 80 points overall, while sophomore midfielder Deemer Class owns 31 goals and 25 assists for 56 points. Fellow attackman Josh Dionne has 43 goals on the year, while Myles Jones and Christian Walsh round out the first midfield line with Class with 42 and 38 points, respectively.

At the faceoff X, senior Brendan Fowler is 209-of-398 for a .601 win percentage and 151 ground balls. He has won at least 50 percent of his draws in all but four games this season. Defensively, the senior trio of Casey Carroll, Chris Hipps and Henry Lobb anchor the close defense. Carroll headlines the group with 19 caused turnovers and 41 ground balls. In addition, junior Will Haus leads the defensive midfield crew with 37 ground balls and is a threat on offense with eight goals and two assists.

In goal, sophomore Luke Aaron is 12-3 overall with a 9.59 goals against average and a .529 save percentage.

Air Force earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing the ECAC title as the No. 3 seed, while Richmond, in its first year of lacrosse, grabbed the automatic berth from the Atlantic Sun. The Falcons are 10-5 and defeated No. 14 Fairfield to win the conference crown. The Spiders sport a 6-10 record in their first year as a program and defeated top-seed Mercer in the opening round and High Point in the title game.

Duke has faced the Falcons six times in the regular season, going 4-2 in those games, while the potential matchup with the Spiders would be the first.

The winner of Sunday’s game advances to the quarterfinals to play the winner of Johns Hopkins – Virginia. That quarterfinal will be played at the University of Delaware, May 18.
