DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Blue Devil baseball program are excited to welcome pitcher Thomas Girard to campus in the fall of 2017.

A 5-11 right-handed pitcher from Simsbury, Conn., Girard led Avon Old Farms to a 16-4 record this past season.

“We’re excited to welcome Thomas to campus,” Pollard said. “He’s a guy that throws a ton of strikes. Thomas has a power slider, a swing-and-miss pitch that will allow him to come in and compete for time right away. He had a terrific senior year at Avon Old Farms and comes to us with a lot of big game experience.”

Girard earned first team Founders League honors this past season while also garnering 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-America accolades. In addition, Girard was named 2016 East Cobb Baseball Pitcher of the Year and collected 2017 17u Perfect Game Tournament Pitcher of the Year.

Girard is part of Duke’s 13-member 2017 signing class that also includes incoming freshmen 1B Chris Crabtree, LHP Matt Dockman, INF Wil Hoyle, RHP/SS Bryce Jarvis, INF Joey Loperfido, OF Steve Mann, RHP Josh Nifong, C Michael Rothenberg, RHP Toma Shigaki-Than and INF Tyler Wardwell as well as graduate student LHP Sam Granoff and RHP Ethan DeCaster.
