DURHAM, N.C. – In one of the only local events for the Duke women’s golf program in 2018-19, the eighth-ranked Blue Devils will compete in the 43rd annual Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 12-14 at the 6,379-yard, par 72 UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Seeing action this weekend along with Duke will be Arkansas, Charlotte, Clemson, Furman, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Rollins, South Carolina, Tulane, UNC Wilmington, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.
The tournament will feature 18 holes each day with a total of 54 holes over the three days of play. Live scoring will be available at www.GolfStat.com
Duke has won the Tar Heel Invitational team title in four out of the last five years and a total of 15 times over the history of the tournament. The Blue Devils topped Alabama by one stroke a year ago, after shooting two of the top eight rounds in the history of the event (271 in first round and 279 in third round). A total of 13 Duke individuals have also claimed the individual title, including recent graduate Leona Maguire in two out of the last three years.
In two tournaments on the season, Duke has opened strong leading the field through the opening round, but has ended up finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
All teams will kick off action Friday with an 11:00 a.m., shotgun start, due to impending weather. Duke will open play on holes one, two and three.
