DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Olivia Jenner and sophomore Charlotte North were among the 50 players named to the initial Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Thursday evening.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
Duke has featured at least two players on the Tewaaraton Award watch list each year since its inception in 2001. Former Blue Devil Katie Chrest received the prestigious honor following the 2005 season.
A native of Annapolis, Md., Jenner appeared on the watch list for the second straight season after rounding out the 2018 campaign as a second team All-South Region and All-ACC selection. The senior attacker is tied for first on the squad in draw controls (26) and assists (8) through four contests and ranks second in goals (13) and points (21). Already the Blue Devils’ all-time leader in career draw controls, Jenner joined the 100-point club for her career in a season-opening victory over Villanova.
North joined Jenner in receiving the watch list distinction for the second consecutive year following a breakout rookie season for the Dallas, Texas native. After ranking second in the ACC in scoring last spring, North is off to a similar start in 2019, pacing Duke with 26 points on 18 goals and eight assists. She has notched a hat trick in all four games, with three five-goal outputs, and totaled 11 points Feb. 13 against Presbyterian to break the program single-game points record.
Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced on May 9 and invited to the 19th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 30.
Jenner, North and the Blue Devils (3-1, 1-0 ACC) welcome William & Mary Friday afternoon for a 4 p.m. tilt on ACC Network Extra.
