DURHAM, N.C.— Coming off seeing action the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur and getting set to compete in her third ACC Championship, junior Ana Belac took time out to answer some questions for GoDuke.com recently. The product of Portoroz, Slovenia is currently ranked 31st nationally in the Golfweek individual rankings.

GoDuke.com:  You recently had a chance to song the pregame siren at the Carolina Hurricanes game. What was that experience like?
Ana Belac: The experience was quite different from anything that I've done before. Being able to participate at their tradition was a huge honor for me, and of course doing that at a home game they won was a lot of fun.

GD: Growing up, were you a big hockey fan?
AB: Growing up I was always a huge winter sports fan, as well as competitive Alpine ski racer until the age of 14. Therefore, winter sports run in my blood. Along with other winter sports, I was always following ice hockey, also because one of the all-time best Slovenian ice hockey players, Anze Kopitar, is serving as a captain of LA Kings.

GD: What was your experience like at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur?
AB: Being a part of the Inaugural ANWA was a tremendous honor and an unforgettable experience. In the weeks before the tournament I tried not to think about the dimension of the tournament, as I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself. However, once I was standing on the first tee on the first day of the tournament I could feel the nerves. Getting a chance to play the Augusta National during that week was one of the best experiences of my life.

GD: How will you take that experience going forward to the postseason with the Blue Devils?
AB: Having a chance to play two such challenging courses definitely exposed what I need to work on when it comes to my game, which gave me even more motivation to prepare in a best way possible for the postseason. The confidence and experience that I gained during that week will be definitely helpful in the following weeks.

GD: Are you excited to get back together with the Blue Devils and try to win a third straight ACC Championship?
AB: Of course 🙂
