DURHAM, N.C. - Duke's Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha were selected the Campbell/ITA National College Doubles Team of the Year on Tuesday after finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the final ITA doubles rankings.
The two Blue Devils are the first in school history to earn national player of the year honors for men's tennis. The duo set a school record for wins in a single season with a 41-6 overall record. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA doubles championships in their first year playing together.
During the dual season, Carleton and Cunha compiled a 22-2 record at the No. 1 doubles spot, including an 8-1 mark in the ACC. The two players faced 21 ranked opponents, winning 15 of those contests.
Carleton and Cunha had a tremendous fall with a 17-3 record that included winning the ITA Carolina regionals and advancing to the finals of the ITA National Indoor Championships in November. The duo also made the finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships before losing to the then No. 1 team in the country, John-Patrick Smith and Davey Sandgren of Tennessee.
