Anumba Finishes 14th in Hammer Throw

DES MOINES, Iowa - Duke freshman Michelle Anumba placed 14th in the junior division hammer throw on Thursday at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Anumba made her Blue Devil debut after redshirting this past season. She had a top throw of 150'11" for the fifth top performance by a collegiate athlete in the event.

The championships will continue on Friday with two Duke student-athletes scheduled to compete. Andrea Hopkins will throw the javelin at 10 a.m. in the junior division. Ryan McDermott will run the trials of the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 4:15 p.m.

All events are taking place at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University. ESPN and NBC will each have TV coverage beginning on Friday. ESPN will air from 8-10 p.m. on Friday, 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1-2:30 p.m. on Sunday. NBC will air Saturday from 3-4 p.m. and Sunday from 3-4 p.m. Events will also be shown live at www.usatf.org.
