DURHAM, N.C. - Six Duke student-athletes, including three-time honoree Jake Lemmerman, were selected to the 2010 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Wednesday.

Lemmerman, a junior who has appeared on the team in each of his three years at Duke, headlines a group of Blue Devils that includes seniors Ryan McCurdy and Jeremy Gould, junior Dennis O'Grady, sophomore Will Piwnica-Worms and freshman Eric Brady. Duke's six selections tied Florida State for the most by any ACC school.

With six selections to the 2010 academic squad, Duke has now amassed an ACC-leading 22 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team selections since the award was first conceived in 2006. Lemmerman, Gould, McCurdy and Piwnica-Worms are all repeat selections to the team while Brady and O'Grady each earned their first career honors.

An Academic All-District III selection and a History major, Lemmerman led Duke in eight offensive categories as a junior including batting average (.335), home runs (11) and RBI (45). A fifth-round draft selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was also the ACC's top defensive shortstop, logging a .987 fielding percentage through 54 games.

Gould, who graduated from Duke with a degree in Psychology, made his second straight appearance on the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team. Gould, a first baseman, outfielder and pitcher, finished his career ranked 11th all-time at Duke with a career .330 batting average. He hit .317 as a senior with seven homers and is currently a pitcher in the New York Mets organization.

A four-year starter at Duke, McCurdy graduated with a degree in Political Science. One of the best defensive third baseman as a sophomore and junior, he switched positions as a senior to become the team's starting catcher. He immediately took the role and caught a team-high 42 games while posting a .280 average and a .407 on base percentage. McCurdy signed a professional contract with the Houston Astros and is currently a catcher in their organization.

O'Grady, a History major, was one of the most valuable players on Duke's roster. A utility pitcher who made a team-high 10 ACC starts, O'Grady appeared at five different positions for the Blue Devils in 2010 while hitting .283 with 28 RBI and 32 runs scored. He was Duke's most consistent pitcher, holding opponents to three earned runs or less in eight of his 10 starts.

Pursuing a degree in Evolutionary Anthropology, Piwnica-Worms started all 56 games as Duke's center fielder and hit .313 with 16 doubles, five triples and six home runs. Also an Academic All-District III choice, he led the team with 49 runs scored and ranked second with 44 RBI.

Brady, a freshman, made an immediate impact for the Blue Devils, starting 45 games in Duke's infield while batting .244 with 22 RBI and 22 runs scored. Brady is the third Duke freshman to appear on the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team.
