DURHAM, N.C. – Duke right-hander Marcus Stroman recorded the final out of a combined three-hit shutout in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team’s 7-0 win over the Keene Swamp Bats on Friday.

Stroman came out of the bullpen with two outs in the top of the seventh and used just three pitches to strike out Keene first baseman Brett Barrett for the final out. USA starter Brady Rodgers (Arizona State) scattered three hits over six shutout innings before Matt Boyd (Oregon State) recorded the first two outs in the seventh and Stroman closed out the victory.

Deven Marrero (Arizona State) tripled and drove in three RBI to lead the Team USA offense.  The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, June 23, but was postponed due to rain and shortened to seven innings due to Team USA’s travel plans later today.

The win over the New England Collegiate League’s Swamp Bats marks the beginning of the three-week season for the Collegiate National Team. Team USA will play its second game of the day this evening against the NECBL’s Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. Stroman’s Duke teammate, freshman David Perkins, serves as the starting third baseman for Mystic.
