Baseball Coaching Staff
Josh Jordan
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Josh Jordan enters his second season with the Duke baseball program after joining the Blue Devil coaching staff in June of 2012. Prior to his arrival in Durham, Jordan spent six seasons as an assistant coach under head coach Chris Pollard at Appalachian State.
Jordan serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator and also works with the team’s catchers and outfielders. In addition, he is involved in teaching both hitting and base running while also coaching first base during games.
At Appalachian State, Jordan’s primary responsibilities included working with the Mountaineers’ catchers and outfielders as well as serving as the team’s first-base coach. Appalachian State won 30 or more games in each of Jordan’s six seasons with the program as the Mountaineers posted an overall record of 210-137 in that span.
Jordan was instrumental in Appalachian State’s stellar 2012 campaign, a season which saw the Mountaineers set a school record for victories with a 41-18 overall record. The Mountaineers captured the Southern Conference championship and earned a berth to the NCAA Championship, advancing to the championship round of the Charlotte Regional with wins over national powers Virginia and Oklahoma.
While in Boone, Jordan supervised the development of 17 players ultimately selected in the MLB Draft. Prior to Jordan and Pollard’s arrival, Appalachian State had not produced a Major League Baseball draftee since the 1996 campaign.
Before joining the Appalachian State staff, Jordan spent the 2006 season with Young Harris College, helping the Mountain Lions to a runner-up finish in the 2006 National Junior College Athletic Assocation (NJCAA) Region XVII Tournament.
Prior to his stint at Young Harris, Jordan spent two seasons at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan. He began his time at Fort Hays as a graduate assistant in 2004 before becoming the Tigers’ top assistant and recruiting coordinator the following year.
Jordan played second base at Catawba College from 1999-2002, leading the Indians to the 2002 South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship. He began his coaching career as a volunteer coach at his alma mater in 2003.
Jordan holds a B.A. in social studies education from Catawba and also earned an M.S. in exercise from Fort Hays State in 2005. A native of Gastonia, N.C., he was a four-year letterwinner and an all-conference performer at Hunter Huss High School from 1995-98.
Jordan and his wife Erika reside in Durham, N.C.
