DURHAM, N.C. - Three Blue Devils - Perry Simmons, Laken Tomlinson and Conner Vernon - have been recognized by Lindy's Sports annual college football publication as preseason All-ACC selections.
Vernon was tabbed to the second team unit while Simmons and Tomlinson received third squad accolades.
Vernon, a senior wide receiver from Miami, Fla., caught 70 passes for 956 yards and six touchdowns last fall en route to receiving second team All-ACC honors for the second straight season. Lindy's also named Vernon as the No. 19 overall wideout in the nation and honored him with the "Best hands" accolade for league receivers.
Simmons, a redshirt junior offensive tackle from Raleigh, N.C., has started 24 consecutive games for the Blue Devils over the past two seasons. A two-time Academic All-ACC choice, Simmons led Duke in total snaps played (927) last fall while aiding a passing attack that had four players catch 40-plus passes for just the second time in school history and first time since 1982.
Tomlinson, a redshirt sophomore offensive guard Chicago, Ill., was a first team Freshman All-America pick by Sporting News in 2011 after being part of a Duke line that opened holes for 19 rushing touchdowns, a total that matched the program's highest output since 1995.
The Blue Devils open the 2012 season with a home contest against FIU on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. Duke season tickets are available online at www.GoDuke.com/tickets or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE.
