SEASON STARTS: With its 38-14 win over Memphis, Duke has opened the season with three consecutive home wins for the first time since 1994 (Maryland, East Carolina & Army) … also marks Duke’s first 3-1 start to a season since 2008 (wins over James Madison, Navy & Virginia with loss to Northwestern) …  marks just the third Duke start of 3-1 or better in the past 24 years (4-0 in 1994; 3-1 in 2008; 3-1 in 2012) … gives David Cutcliffe his sixth 3-1 start to a season in 11 years as a head coach (3-1 at Ole Miss in 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002; 3-1 at Duke in 2008 & 2012) … gives David Cutcliffe three straight home wins to open a season for the third time in 11 years as a head coach (3-0 at home at Ole Miss in 2001 & 2002; 3-0 at home at Duke in 2012).

SEASON POINT PRODUCTION: With its 38-point performance against Memphis, Duke has posted 151 points in its first four games of the 2012 season and 138 points in the first three home games of the year … the 151 points in the first four games rank as the third-highest total in school history, trailing the Blue Devil teams in 1945 (162) and 1943 (156) … the 138 points in the first three home games rank as the second-highest total in school history, trailing the 1943 team which earned 143.

100TH SEASON: Duke kicked off its 100th season of football with a 46-26 win over FIU … Duke is now 460-483-31 all-time

DUKE-MEMPHIS SERIES: Duke’s 38-14 victory over Memphis in their inaugural meeting gives Duke the series lead at 1-0.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT: Duke totaled 500 yards of offense, its highest total of the season … this is the first time that the Blue Devils have totaled 500+ yards of offense since gaining 542 against Elon on September 4, 2010. 

THIRD-DOWN PRODUCTION: Duke converted 8-of-9 third downs in the second half after going 0-of-7 on third down in the opening 30 minutes of action. In contrast, the Blue Devils held Memphis to 1-of-11 on third down, including 0-of-5 in the second half of play.

THIRTY-PLUS POINT GAMES: Duke reached the 30-point mark for the 18th time during the Cutcliffe era and improved to 13-5 under Cutcliffe when scoring at least 30 points … after going 28-6 at Ole Miss when scoring 30 or more points, Cutcliffe is now 41-10 for his coaching career when hitting the 30-point mark.

RENFREE AND VERNON TANDEM: QB Sean Renfree and WR Conner Vernon hooked up for their 13th passing touchdown tonight.  The duo ranks fourth on Duke’s all-time list of QB-WR touchdown combinations. 

TURNOVER TROUBLE: Duke committed four turnovers (three fumbles and one interception) in the game, including two turnovers inside the red zone. The Blue Devils are now 1-6 under Cutcliffe when committing four or more turnovers. 

GAMES STARTED & GAMES PLAYED NOTES: S Jordon Byas earned his first start of the 2012 season following knee surgery earlier in the year… WR Conner Vernon received his team-leading 35th consecutive start … OT Perry Simmons has now started all 26 games of his playing career … LS Jackson Anderson, S Walt Canty, CB Tony Foster and LB Austin Gamble all played in their team-leading 38th game
S JORDON BYAS: After missing the first three games of the season while recovering from knee surgery, started the contest and finished the night with six tackles. 

S BRANDON BRAXTON: Led Duke defense with eight total tackles including four solo tackles. He is now second on the team with 28 tackles. 

S ROSS COCKRELL: Finished the evening with seven total tackles including four solo tackles. He also had one pass breakup in the contest. Cockrell now has 10 passes defended on the year. He entered the weekend tied for first nationally in pass defended. He is also one pass breakup of moving into the top 10 of the Duke record books in that category.
QB BRANDON CONNETTE: Rushed for his 12th touchdown of his career, ranking fourth on Duke’s all-time list. He is one touchdown shy of matching the third place slot held by Leo Hart (1968-70) … caught his first career touchdown in the fourth quarter … he is the first Blue Devil to rush for a touchdown, receive a touchdown pass and pass for a touchdown since D. Bryant in 2000. 

RB JELA DUNCAN: Led all Duke rushers with 88 yards on nine carries ... recorded a season best 58-yard rush in the second quarter ... the 88 rushing yards was his highest output over four games this season.

Kicked one field goal (23 yards) and went 5-5 on point after attempts to earn a total of eight points … the freshman has scored six field goals on the season to tie for sixth place on Duke’s all-time freshman kickers list. 

QB SEAN RENFREE: Finished the night 26-for-37 with 314 yards and four touchdowns … has reached double figures in the completion column in 28 consecutive games to tie the Duke record held by Thaddeus Lewis …  has thrown multiple scoring passes 11 times in his career to place him fifth on Duke's all-time chart for the most career games with 2+ passing touchdowns … tallied three touchdown passes for the fourth time in his career … the four touchdowns match his career best in one game which he earned against Wake Forest in 2010 and Georgia Tech in 2011 … his 40 career touchdowns place him fourth on Duke’s all-time list … tied for fourth all-time in career games with at least three touchdown passes has also thrown for 150 or more yards in 21 consecutive games and 26 times in his career … moved into third place in program history for the most 200-yard passing games for a career with 22 and is tied for third on Duke’s all-time list for career 300 yard games with nine. 

WR DESMOND SCOTT: With his reception in the first quarter, Scott has at least one reception in 30 consecutive games, the sixth longest active streak in the nation. He has at least two receptions in 12 consecutive games. Scott finished the game with four catches for 56 yards, including his first career touchdown on a 16-yard reception in the third quarter.  

OT PERRY SIMMONS: Became the third active Blue Devil to reach the 2,000-snap plateau, joining C Brian Moore and WR Conner Vernon

WR CONNER VERNON: Totaled eight receptions for 120 yards on the evening … with his first reception of the game, he extended his streak of consecutive games with at least one catch to 39 - the longest active streak in the nation … has caught two or more passes in 18 consecutive games and in 38 career games to match the Duke record set by Donovan Varner  … moved into fifth place on the ACC Career Receiving Yards Leaders with a 13-yard reception in the second quarter … topped 100+ yards for the 11th time of his career which places him second on the all-time chart … fifth ACC player to reach 3,000 career receiving yards … now has 227 receptions for 3,024 yards … has caught five passes in 27 consecutive games.

DE JONATHAN WOODRUFF: Recorded 1.5 sacks in the contest, the first sacks of his career … finished the game with three tackles.

P WILL MONDAY: Completed the first pass of his career on a fake punt on Duke’s first possession … hit Connette for a nine-yard gain on fourth and two … also matched a career-high with a 60-yard punt in the contest.
