TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Michael Redlicki and sophomore Raphael Hemmeler advanced to the final round of singles qualifying on Tuesday as the Duke men’s tennis team continued play at the ITA All-American Championships, at the event hosted by University of Tulsa.

Redlicki, the top ranked freshman in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s preseason rankings, cruised to a straight-set victory against Georgia’s Ben Wagland, 6-2, 6-2. The rookie will now face Andrew Bettles of Boise State in the final qualifying singles round on Wednesday.

Hemmeler advanced to the final round after defeating Virginia Tech’s Andreas Bjerrehus, who advanced from the pre-qualifying stage, in a thrilling three-set match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. The sophomore will play Tulsa’s Alejandro Sanchez in the final qualifying round.

Fellow sophomore Jason Tahir was defeated on Tuesday in a hard fought three-set match against Drake’s James McKie, falling by the scores of 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-3.

In the doubles qualifying draw, Tahir and Redlicki defeated Tomislav Gregurovic and Guillermo Nicol of Wichita State in the afternoon, 8-2.The Blue Devil tandem was defeated by the Georgia duo of Wagland and Hernus Pieters, 8-5, the fifth seed in the qualifying draw, late in Tuesday’s second round of action.

The qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American Championships will conclude on Wednesday with one round of singles and two rounds of doubles. Overall, 16 individuals in the singles draw and eight tandems in the doubles draw will have the opportunity to compete in the main draw, which is set to begin on Thursday.
