DURHAM, N.C. - The 24th-ranked Duke field hockey team will travel to College Park, Md. this weekend to take on the 5th ranked Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, October 6th at 1:00 pm. Duke's Last Time Out
Duke split last weekend with a 2-1 loss to Boston College on Friday and 11-2 win over Kent State Sunday. On Friday, the Blue Devils battled through two rain delays against the Eagles but came up short in the end despite a goal by junior Brenna Rescigno. The Blue Devils outshot the Eagles by a margin of 15-9, and had the edge in penalty corners 9-4.

In the win over Kent State, redshirt junior Devon Gagliardi earned her first career hat trick, and added two assists as the Blue Devils cruised past the Golden Flashes 11-2. A total of eight different Blue Devils added goals in the game, including junior Emmie Le Marchand who picked up two goals and three assists on the day.

Facing Maryland
Maryland has been a perennial power in the NCAA, winning five of the last seven NCAA National Championships, including the 2010 and 2011 titles. The 2012 Terrapins own an 8-3 record overall, and are 2-1 in the ACC. Maryland is coming off a tough 3-2 loss to No. 4 Princeton on Oct. 12 and is led by sophomore Katie Gerzabek who has eight goals and two assists on the season, and junior Jill Witmer who has six goals and eight assists to her name.

The Terrapins own a 28-8-3 all-time record against the Blue Devils, including a matchup in the ACC Semifinals on Nov. 4, 2011 in which Duke won 2-1 in College Park, Md. After entering the second half tied at 1-1, Duke saw a goal from Le Marchand in the 37th minute off a penalty corner to put the Blue Devils up 2-1. Duke was able to hold Maryland without a shot for a 16 minute stretch in the second half to preserve the victory, and to advance to the ACC Championship game against North Carolina. The Blue Devils are 3-6 when traveling to Maryland since 2000.

Duke in the Rankings
The Blue Devils are ranked nationally in a number of statistical categories including assists per game (13th, 2.58), goals per game (17th, 3.00), and penalty corners per game (6th, 9.08). Le Marchand is ranked 26th in the country in points per game (1.83) and 28th in goals per game (0.75). Sophomore Lauren Blazing is ranked 39th in the country in goals against average (2.16).

Success at Junior Pan Am's
Six Blue Devils traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico to represent their respective countries in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games. The Junior World Cup qualifier began on September 10, lasting until September 23. Sophomores Abby Beltrani and Lauren Blazing along with freshman Aileen Johnson and Hannah Barreca were members of the bronze medal United States team while sophomore Jessica Buttinger and freshman Kendra Perrin competed for Canada to earn a silver medal. Both accomplished their ultimate goals of qualifying for the 2013 Jr. World Cup.

Up Next
The Blue Devils will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., to face James Madison on October 12 and will continue its Virginia road trip when they travel to Norfolk, Va., to take on tenth-ranked Old Dominion on October 14 at 1 pm.
