Duke Set for Midweek Bout at Gardner-Webb

DURHAM, N.C.-Fresh off of a pair of commanding road victories over the weekend, the Duke University wrestling team returns to action tomorrow night, Feb. 5, at Gardner-Webb. The Blue Devils and Bulldogs grapple at 7 p.m., at Paul Porter Arena.

Bout Details

The dual between Duke and Gardner-Webb set for 7 p.m., will feature a live video stream with the purchase of a subscription. Live scoring also will be available free of charge. The Bulldogs will honor their five seniors in a short ceremony prior to the match.

Series History

Duke and Gardner-Webb will meet Tuesday night for the 26th time in the programs' histories and for the sixth straight season. The Blue Devils have fared well against the Bulldogs, sporting a 23-1-1 all-time record. Duke is 9-0-1 in the previous 10 duals with the lone loss coming in 1998. In 2012, the Blue Devils outlasted Gardner-Webb 22-13 in Durham.

Rematch at 157 Pounds

Tuesday's bout with the Bulldogs will feature one rematch from the 2012 dual. Duke redshirt sophomore Immanuel Kerr-Brown and Gardner-Webb's Alex Medved meet again after the Bulldogs' 157-pounder posted an 11-3 victory over Kerr-Brown. Medved is 23-7 this season and 9-3 in duals, while Kerr-Brown is 20-11 overall and 3-4 in dual matches.


The Blue Devils hit the road for a midweek dual with a four-game win streak on the line. Duke has defeated Appalachian State, Boston University, SIUE and Davidson over the past two weeks to move to 6-5 overall for the year. Duke's last loss was Jan. 20 at No. 11 Virginia. Three Blue Devils, Trey Adamson, Marcus Cain and Tanner Hough, all own a four-match win streak of their own as well.

Scouting Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb wraps up its home schedule Tuesday night looking to get back on track after dropping two straight bouts. The Bulldogs are 4-8 overall and most recently lost to Campbell and Chattanooga. GWU's Travis Porter was ranked in last week's NCAA Division I rankings, coming in at No. 33 at heavyweight. Alex Medved, has won nine straight matches and has been perfect so far in the 2013 calendar year. His 23 wins are tops for the Bulldogs, while Porter is 17-9 overall.

Scouting the Blue Devils

Duke heads to Boiling Springs, N.C., a winner in its past four matches and 6-5 overall. The Blue Devils most recently posted commanding victories over SIUE and Davidson this past weekend. Tanner Hough, wrestling at 141 pounds, sports a 16-12 overall record and is 7-4 in duals, while redshirt freshman Marcus Cain is 16-7 and 7-1 in dual matches. Cain has registered two pins and a major decision in three of his past four outings. Redshirt freshman Trey Adamson is wrestling well lately, winning his past four bouts to improve to 14-12 overall for the year.
