DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Austin Cody of the men’s golf team recently sat down with GoDuke.com to learn highlights from his golf career. Cody owns two top-10 finishes for the season, including a tie for third at the John Hayt Invitational.
GoDuke.com: What kind of clubs do you play?
Austin Cody: Right now, I am pretty much all TaylorMade. I have TaylorMade irons, TaylorMade RocketBallz three-wood, as well as a TaylorMade R11 driver. All three of my wedges, 52, 56 and 60, are TaylorMade. I am putting with an Odyssey putter and play with a TaylorMade golf ball.
GoDuke.com: What kind of pre-round superstitions do you have before tournaments?
AC: No superstitions, but before a round I will typically need about an hour to warm up. I will putt, chip, hit a few range balls and putt again right before I head out.
GoDuke.com: Is there a shot that sticks out in your mind that you have hit under pressure?
AC: My wedge game, I have a lot of confidence in. If I ever have a wedge shot my confidence is high and that is the shot that I would like to have under pressure.
GoDuke.com: What is your go to shot?
AC: I always like to hit a draw, most of the time a pretty low draw. I am comfortable with that and I will stick with it until something happens.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite club?
AC: Probably my driver.
GoDuke.com: Do you have a ball mark with any special significance?
AC: No, I am not that superstitious. I usually use a Duke ball marker and that is about it.
