DURHAM, N.C. – Duke seniors Mason Plumlee and Todd Zafirovski were named to the NABC Honors Court, announced Wednesday by The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

The NABC Honors court recognizes collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2012-13 season. Plumlee was also named to the NABC Honors Court following the 2011-12 academic year, while Zafirovski is a first-time honoree.

Plumlee received his undergraduate degree in psychology in May, while Zafirovski earned his degree in psychology with a certificate in markets and management studies. Plumlee was drafted 22nd overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2013 NBA Draft, while Zafirovski will return to Duke as a graduate student and a member of the basketball team in 2013-14.

Plumlee, a 6-10, 235-pound forward from Warsaw, Ind., received All-America and All-ACC honors as a senior after averaging 17.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. He received the ACC Skip Prosser Award as the league’s top men’s basketball scholar-athlete while also earning Capital One Academic All-America honors for the second straight year. Plumlee is only the fifth player in school history to twice earn Academic All-America first team honors.

Zafirovski, a 6-8, 245-pound forward from Lake Forest, Ill., joined the team as a walk-on during the Blue Devils’ 2009-10 NCAA Championship season and is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection. He played in a career-high seven games in 2012-13, during which he scored his first career points, grabbed his first rebound and posted his first block and steal.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
2. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year.
3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
4. Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution.
