DURHAM, N.C. – Seven Blue Devil swimmers are bound for the 2013 U.S. Open, which kicks off Tuesday, July 30 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 3 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif.
Duke will send a strong contingent to compete in the breaststroke events, including two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer Hunter Knight, graduate student Emily Barber and incoming freshmen Peter Kropp and Dylan Payne.
Senior Lauren Weaver has qualified to swim in the 50 freestyle, an event she medaled in at the 2013 ACC Championships, while fellow sprinter Stefan Knight is slated to compete in the 50 and 100 freestyle on the men’s side.
Incoming freshman Lindsay Schlichte made the U.S. Open cut in three events – the 400, 800 and 1,500 freestyle.
The week-long meet is a long course competition, with preliminary heats scheduled for 9 a.m. PST each morning and finals at 5 p.m. PST each evening.
