Weinberg Leads USA to Gold Medal at Maccabiah Games

Israel – Laura Weinberg and the USA women’s soccer team closed the 2013 Maccabiah Games by downing host Israel, 6-1, in the championship of the open division to claim the gold medal in Israel.

Weinberg, who is a rising senior on the Duke women’s soccer team, led all scorers in the tournament with nine goals as the USA squad collected a 5-0-1 overall record.  The USA team outscored its opponents by a 40-2 ledger over the six contests.  

USA finished first, while Israel, Canada Australia, Argentina, Germany and Holland rounded out the top seven teams.  

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Weinberg and her Blue Devil teammates will open preseason camp on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
